Sands
United
Working title
By Natalie Mitchell
A new play commissioned by Just Add Milk.
The project
Child loss, masculinity, friendship, grief — and Barry from EastEnders.
Five men belong to a football team no one wants to join: Sands United. Brought together by loss, their weekly games offer support, friendship and laughter.
As a fundraising match approaches, the pressure builds. Ryan is anxious about his wife’s pregnancy, while his dad Rich has started drinking again. Manager Paul faces a difficult anniversary, Evan is navigating adoption, and new player Ollie wishes he wasn’t there at all.
Can they come together in time for the match?
Commissioned by JAM in 2025, Sands United is written by Natalie Mitchell and directed for the R&D by Jesse Jones. Kristian Wall produces for Just Add Milk Productions.
